Maxim Maternity pads are made with 100% Natural Cotton and unlike other brands, the cover sheet, the part of the pad in direct contact with the body, is 100% cotton. Other brands use a Nonwoven cover sheet which is a petrochemical byproduct. Our natural cotton is whitened and disinfected with Hydrogen Peroxide instead of Chlorine to avoid creating harmful chemical Dioxin residues. We steer clear of using any irritating materials like Petrochemical byproducts, Viscose/Rayon, Plastics, or Perfume found in other conventional products. We take the added eco-friendly step in being the only brand with Cellulose Fluff Pulp* Free sanitary pads; We use natural cotton as our absorbent core filler instead of cellulose fluff pulp in order to help prevent the abuse and destruction of our natural forests to obtain cellulose pulp. All of these qualities combined, make our Maternity pads Hypoallergenic.
Additional product features include a smooth cotton surface for added comfort, natural breathable layers admitting air flow to the skin for added dryness and no adhesive is used to make it extra safe for open wounds prevalent after birth or surgery. Perfect to be used during pregnancy, after birth and surgical procedures. Maxim Organic and Natural products are better for your body, health and our earth.
*What is Cellulose Fluff Pulp? Cellulose fluff pulp is a tree byproduct used as the absorbent filler in pads. It has unfortunately become a standard in organic and non-organic feminine hygiene products, even though it has a significant environmental impact in the sense that it requires the cutting down of trees in order to obtain cellulose fluff pulp. Maxim products use 100% natural cotton as our filler instead of cellulose fluff pulp because cotton is more waste efficient, easily cultivated and its production has less of an overall negative impact on the natural environment.
** What is Viscose/Rayon?
Rayon is a type of viscose which is a petrochemical based by-product. It has the same characteristic of natural cotton with much higher liquid absorbency. It is easier and less expensive to produce fluff from Rayon than Cotton; this is why rayon is the preferred material used in a pad's Absorbent Core, even though rayon is not as safe for the body or environment as cotton.
Dangers of Viscose/Rayon and Other Cotton Fillers?
Feminine hygiene products made with Viscose/Rayon are more dangerous because of their highly absorbent fibers. These fibers contain dioxin, a harmful chemical, that when left behind in or against the body could lead to it's proliferation and eventual cause of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome).
A yeast infection in the vaginal area, typically occurs in warm, moist environments. The viscose/rayon, synthetics, plastics, cellulose, perfume, superabsorbents, and other petrochemical materials found in other feminine hygiene products traps moisture, increasing the likelihood of developing a yeast infection. These compounds create what's called a "heat-dampness micro-climate," which is an ideal situation for the proliferation of bacteria, fungi, and other irritation-causing subjects."
Maxim products only use cotton, which is highly breathable, helping to reduce the risk of irritation, allergy and infection.
What is Chlorine/Dioxin?
Industry standard methods use Chlorine to bleach the Fluff Pulp, Cotton or Rayon in feminine hygiene products. The purpose of bleaching is to disinfect these materials from germs and whiten the color.
Dioxin is a chemical substance or residue of Chlorine, which stays within the fluffs of Cotton or Rayon. It is a kind of poison that can be harmful to human health, if the dosage becomes too high in the body.
Dioxin Dangers
Dioxin is a toxic carcinogenic product that could cause serious health problems in women and men.
1. Short term exposure: poisoning, skin lesions, liver damage
2. Long Term exposure: damage to the reproductive system (endometriosis, abnormal shedding of the uterus lining), impairment of immune system.
3. Chronic exposure: links to cancer
What is Hydrogen-Peroxide?
Hydrogen-Peroxide is another chemical which is used instead of Chlorine/Dioxin to disinfect Fluff Pulp, Cotton or Rayon from germs and whiten their colors. It is a more expensive and time consuming bleaching process, but it is the best and healthiest available alternative to chlorine. It does not leave any chemical substances or residue behind in the Cellulose Fluff, Cotton or Rayon and it is not harmful to human health. Another name commonly used for this process is Oxygenation.

Whether your primary concern is personal protection and well-being, or protecting trees and our overall environment, Maxim makes products that keep you assured you’re taking better care of yourself and the world while having less of a negative impact on the planet.
As long as each one of us stops using products which are harmful to our health, leading manufacturers would be forced to come up with new ideas and inventions to produce healthier and more environmentally-friendly products.
