A robust plant, having broad fleshy leaves, dull green to reddish green in color with dark brown spines along the edge and sometimes, lower surface. Bright reddish orange flowers appear from May to August in erect, candle-shaped clusters.

Botanical Name: Aloe ferox Mill.
Sourcing Notes: Aloe ferox is widely distributed along the eastern parts of South Africa. The leaves can be harvested in their natural state in the wild without causing injury to the plant which preserves it as a natural, and renewable resource. Because of this, the sources of natural, organic product are plentiful without the need for cultivation.
Processing Notes: The dark, bitter sap is harvested from the cut leaves by an age old, natural leaching process. The sap is then boiled slowly and reduced, allowing it to harden into a crystalline form as it cools. The product must remain cool during the grinding process to prevent it from becoming soft and gummy. The integral constituents of the plant are not compromised during the boiling process due to their natural tolerance of heat.
